Forget not to show love unto strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Hebrews 13:2
Community activities recently at the Key Centre have focussed on food and community and we have seen our gatherings grow exponentially over the past few months. We keep these verses in mind when we encounter people of all ages and ethnicities. We love them and food is a great way to make people feel cared for and for them to relax and start a conversation.
We have a regular weekly meeting with Syrian ladies who have been with us on and off for over seven years now. We meet on a Friday and have delicious Arabic cakes and sometimes larger meals which are delicious. We have joined with ladies at Driffield Rugby Club for community days and meet and greets, we have had a visit from the mayor and we enjoyed a lovely day out at Sewerby Hall where they cooked in the kitchen. We have a lady come and help them learn English and they work on their I.T which is not always successful, but they try. We have joined for many events with Sewerby Women’s Institute, and they are fabulous at rallying round to help with cake making or providing household equipment to anyone in need. We are very grateful to them.
Fridays are busy in the Key Centre as we also have our Friday lunch which started out with around three people and has now grown to around twenty-five. Initially it was just lunch however we are also now looking at some bible discovery, question and answer sessions and for Easter we have done various activities including making a prayer cross which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. It opened nicely to discussions about prayer, and it has been heartening to see the enthusiasm for this growing. Dave Howe brings his men from Hope House, and this adds to the community feeling for them, acceptance and caring.
We have also held lots of activities through the HAF funded project for children and families through the Easter holidays including a Glow Disco, a Chalet Day where we froze in a howling wind, a super film night where we watched Wicked and a teen party which was really well attended, and the karaoke went down exceptionally well. The young people and their parents had fun and made some really lovely food, pancakes, pizzas, fruit kebabs and a picnic at the beach.
We also held an Easter Party in Church and had over 60 children attended with their families.
God has been good, and we thank him prayerfully for his provision.
