The Basics of Holy Spirit’s Ministry
When we say come Holy Spirit what do we expect? The Spirit cannot come from heaven and not bring something of His home with Him. His job is to bring His environment to our environment. His smallest touch results in some heavenly deposit into our lives.
There are many things that He does in our everyday Christian lives.
He convicts of Sin (John16:8) not condemning but specifically shining God’s light on areas of our lives that need change. He converts us in the first place (John 3:6) breathing the life of heaven into our spirits so we can be born again. At conversion and beyond He is active to cover over our sin by an active application of the blood of Jesus (1Peter 1:2).
The Spirit constantly works to conform us to the image of Jesus (2Corinthians 3:8). The face He sees in heaven He strives to produce in us! He also convinces us of the truth – not mere head knowledge but deep conviction (John 16:3). And lastly, He casts out demons (Matthew 12:28) and constantly wars through us to conquer the kingdom of darkness.
We need to pay attention to our relationship with Holy Spirit. Do we need to repent of grieving the Spirit (Ephesians 4:30), quenching the Spirit (1Thessalonians 5:19,) or getting out of step with Him (Galatians 5:26)
In Luke 11 9-13 Jesus speaks extensively about Holy Spirit. He assures us we will only get good things if we ask for something from the Spirit. But we have to ask, to seek, and to knock, not a passive reception of blessing.
The Father wants to restore all our old gifting’s that have fallen into disuse, He speaks of fanning back into flame (2Timothy 1:6). Also, today He wants us to be equipped with new gifts for new tasks. Let’s ask for the Holy Spirit to give us more of His presence, more of heavens environment, to equip us for every good work to be done.
