Mark Carey writes:
How Much Do You Want It?
I travelled to Bradford the other day to share in the learnings from the first phase of the Faith in the North initiative. It was encouraging to hear stories from across the Northern Province of the Church of England - stories of churches investing in mission, discipleship, and church planting.
Several things stood out that resonate with us in our Network, but one, in particular, has stayed with me: a question Bishop Matthew Porter asked:
“How much do you want it?”
That question challenged me deeply. What does it mean to ‘want it’ - the growth of the Church, the flourishing of God’s people, the advance of His Kingdom?
I realised that desire shapes decisions. If I really want something, I become willing to change. I’m ready to take risks, to persevere through opposition, and to steward well what God has placed in my hands. Jesus put it simply:
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” - Matthew 6:33
These moments remind me to stay focussed, to keep moving forward in faith and hope. And maybe, wherever you are and whatever you're facing today, you could ask the same question:
“How much do I want it?” - the Kingdom.
Let’s keep asking, seeking, and pressing on - together.
